Diron Chloe doesn't like to come off the football field.
When Cox Mill plays, the junior doesn't get to leave the gridiron often, starting on both sides of the ball at fullback on offense and middle linebacker on defense.
Heading into last Friday's game at A.L. Brown, Chloe had rushed for 585 yards and nine touchdowns while making 14 solo tackles.
In most games, the junior is on the field for 80 plays, sitting out a little bit on offense and on most special-teams plays.
Starting both ways is definitely tough at times," said Chloe. "But I like to be in on every play if I can. For my team, I just have to do it. That's just the way it is."

If you turn on your television and see what looks like the Cox Mill High School Marching Band, don't worry: You are not "seeing things."
Various members of the Spirit of Cox Mill High School Marching Band were cast recently in a commercial for a new television series called "Homeland." The series will air on Showtime beginning this fall.
Joseph Earp, director of bands at Cox Mill High, explained how they were discovered for the part.
"A simple email ... was sent to one of our assistant principals, Julia Erdie, from the casting company that was involved with the commercial. The lady in charge of casting was in attendance at the Cox Mill Elementary fifth-grade graduation, which the Cox Mill High School band performed for," Earp said. "She was impressed with our band and with our look."
The commercial is running on Showtime and also can be seen on You Tube at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FM6oL1Lddts. Check it out.

From the Charlotte Observer...Tristian Green never gives up on a play with a potential sack or tackle at stake. That is the key to the Cox Mill senior defensive-end's game, after he established himself as one of the top defenders in the South Piedmont conference last year with 16.5 sacks.
"To be a great defensive lineman, you have to have a motor that never stops," Green said. "I try to work harder on every play."

In 2009, it was hard to tell who had more to learn: the Cox Mill girls' tennis team or its single players, including top seed Claudia Oyaneder.
The team, like the school, was brand new. Made up of freshmen, most of whom came up from Harris Road Middle, as well as sophomores and juniors who had been reassigned from Northwest Cabarrus, the Chargers had to settle into their new environment.
Two years later, Oyaneder and the Chargers have reversed roles. The experienced Oyaneder, as a singles player, and the Cox Mill team could easily compete for a conference championship this year.
